James has found his niche in criminal law and has already proven to be a successful trial advocate.
James is a dedicated, hard working lawyer that always strives for perfection in delivering the best for his clients.
James was born in Calgary, but was raised in Okotoks. He attended the University of Calgary to complete his undergraduate degree in Political Science, and then obtained his J.D. from Thompson Rivers University Law in Kamloops, BC.
Upon returning to Alberta, James began his articles at a general practice firm in Okotoks, Alberta, where he received exposure to all areas of law. During his articles James realized he had a passion for Criminal Defence and transferred to Der Barristers to complete his articles. James was then hired as a Junior Associate at Der Barristers practicing exclusively in criminal law.
He has already successfully defended numerous clients on charges that include assault, impaired driving, theft, fraud, break and enter, and robbery. Additionally, James has assisted Balfour Der and Lisa Burgis Der on numerous files that range from high profile homicide cases, criminal appeals, sexual assaults, constitutional challenges, and much more.
James has found his niche in criminal law and has already proven to be a successful trial advocate. He is a dedicated, hard working lawyer that always strives to do the best he possibly can for his clients. Furthermore, his pre-trial preparation, court room presence, and oral advocacy have set him apart from other lawyers and have helped him achieve positive results for numerous clients already. James also has the benefit of being able to rely on the combined experience of Balfour Der and Lisa Burgis Der who provide continuous mentorship and guidance.
James is a member of the Calgary Bar Association and the Calgary Criminal Lawyer’s Association. Outside of law James enjoys playing sports such as golf, hockey and Senior C Lacrosse.
